ISE standards are used to calibrate ion selective electrode measurement systems by correlating the electrode output with the concentration of the analyte.

Pairs of standards with concentrations that differ by a factor of ten (e.g. 1, 10, 100 or 1000 mg/L) are typically used, although other combinations may be used when a narrower analytical range is desired.
